Sinjuns Guestbook - January 2007 ~ December 2007

I don't know if anybody out there remembers me. I was in Spencer House between 1953 and 1959. Although I didn't enjoy school all that much I did enjoy being in the CCF and played the bugle. I've been in the travel industry for most of my life - living in the US for 9 years and Australia for 4. I have been self employed (still am) and specialise in the conferences/incentives/events side of the business as a freelancer. I am married with a son, stepsons and grandsons. I love what I do so no plans to retire, just so long as the brain and body are still able to function efficiently!

I have finally found time to scan and upload the OBA Gazette for January 1960. It can be found on the same website as before. All the best to everyone.

Met up with Jeffrey ( Geoffrey?) Masters yesterday and today, swapping stories with each other, until domestic duties got in the way. Hopefully will catch up again soon. Both of us started in September 1964, and it's taken a lot of water to go under Battersea Bridge since then!!! Anybody else remember us??? Speak to you soon then, regards Jeff H.

Just a quick line to say that a good time was had by all at the Drink Up the other week at The Windsor Castle, St Johns Rd. Those that came were Terry(Jackanory)Mahoney,Stuart Price, Gary Watkins, John Rushworth and Lloyd Ridgeway. Ex Sports Teacher Brian Williams also made an appearence, which was good to see, and Geoff Hopkins and Chris Young could'nt make it due to family commitments. I have instigated a couple of these 'Drink Ups' now and have said that I will leave it to someone else to take the reigns, so please let me know if anyone does organise anything as I now have several Contact numbers etc if they want them. Cheers all !!

I've just wallowed in two hours of tear-jerking nostalgia on finding this site ! Attended Sinjun's from 1963 until cordially invited to leave by 'Nobby' Clarke in 1970. Lots of fond memories of names such as John and Paul Goodacre, Tim Murari, Chris Emery , Stevie Brown , Alan Buckett , Les Philby , Steve Ralphs , Chris Alderton , Richard Webb.....etc , etc. Me?....time has turned me into a miserable , cynical old bastard and I'm enjoying every minute of it ! Greetings to you all....I'm off to the loft to see if I can find my old blazer badge....

Whose going to Wembley? I've block booked Alisan www.alisan.co.uk a restaurant client of mine in Wembley. Good place. Michelin-starred chef, the works. It's only a long throw from the new stadium. We already got a fair few old sinjuns coming and it would be great to have a few more. It's £65+VAT inc drinks, celebrity guests, etc. If you can't afford that to witness the third leg of an historic quadruple- then you've wasted a grammar school education. Anyone unable to get a ticket can always watch the game on the screens in the bar. There should be a couple of match tickets to raffle on the day, and I'll tell the touts to bring any of their excess stock at 2.55.

I look at this site once every approx 6 months. It never ceases to amaze me of the immature comments received on a regular basis. If you are looking at this site you are probably at least 40, if it's you, start acting your age NOW! If you haven't got a serious comment don't bother saying anything on this site because we don't want to read your rubbish anymore.(I'm sure I will get a reply from those of you that disagree.) If you actually went to Sinjuns and are proud of that, why not make some comments about your time at the school. If you didn't go to the school go away and make your comments where we can't read them because they are boring. I've got off my soap box now see you in approx 6 months?

It never ceases to amaze me, the people that add and read this guestbook must be 40 plus? I read this probably once every 3 to 6 months just to see if any of the old names crop up, and quite honestly, I know we used to get up to some pathetic childest things, and got the cane for many times, but some of you really do need to get out in the big wide world and grow up fast. Do you not bore yourself with this rubbish?I'm sure you lot will want to tell me to bugger off, or something stronger, however why don't you put that energy into creating your own website - you could call it letsactourfingshoesize.com and you can then type rubbish all day and you won't get moany gits like me on your back. Kind Regards, dp

Well, I remember The Rev. Blackburn was known as Albert Hall... and I remember The Great Escape from Hurlingham Sports Day... but it does not really seem to add up to much considering it was six precious years of my life. What was the caretaker Mr. Tanner's assistant called? (that is a comment on how we were expected to behave - we called him "Tanner" and that was thought to be acceptable !!!)

I remember you Dave Piotrowski, your skills in mimicking teachers voices had me in stiches on many occasions. I was in the same year (and many classes) as your younger brother Michael, and often heard you taking the pee out of Fritz or others with your mates in the corridors. How is Michael btw? Have to say I completely agree with you regarding the childish comments on here at times. It spoils it for the rest of us. Hello to anyone who remembers me.

I was at Sinjuns 1967-73. Names I remember are Richard Masterson, Richard Whyman, William Lonergan, Tony Behagg, Norman Neate, Mark Johnson, Dino Sphikas, Keith Roodenberg, Jon Payne, Arnie Wells, Chris Smallwood, Keith Bruzas, John Hammond, Richard Green, Angus Mackay. And many others. Teachers include JD Roberts, RA Walker, Fritz Taylor, Scruff Powsland, Arthur DeCaux, Trogg Walker, DET, Duckett, Cox (geography). Two vivid memories, both concerning young Angus MacKay: him turning up for his first day in shorts! And one day the other geography teacher, I forget his name, said 'Mackay, would you do me a favour?', 'Yes sir, what is it', 'Would you f**k off to another school please?'. Happy days mostly. Be good to heear from anyone from my peer group.

I was at Sinjuns from 1959 - 1964, under the"reign" of Mr Presswood ? Fellow pupils I can remember are Steve Wooldridge,Alan Badcock, Graham Welch, Brian Weedon, Nasim Tariq, John Elias, Barry Sullivan to name a few. Teachers were "Dolly" Rhodes, "Fritz" Taylor, Mr Semmonds (?), Mr Lydon, Ducket,Mr Smith - that's all at the moment. I left in 1964 and started with an Insurance company, left after 2 years for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and finally, joined the London Fire Brigade in 1968, until I was medically retired in 1993. I am approaching the great 60, with a lovely wife of 38 years, a lovely daughter who is married, and 5 months ago, presented us with our first grandchild, who is a handsome little boy called Ethan.I happened across this sight via Google - what a surprise when reading the guestbook to see some names I can actually remember !! All for now.

Attended from age 11 to age 16 when we moved to Hampshire. Took 'O' levels at Sinjuns after moving (commuted for 3 months from Fleet station), represented school at football and cricket. I remember Tony and Ken Ashby as good friends. My Uncle Peter Walker was at the school before me. We were both in Lydiards House. I remember taking Dr Presswood's French course very successfully in 2 years.
