I have researched many of the 1956 intake and we had a big reunion Oct 1999 - see website for details (at present). I'd be happy to have all that integrated into your website if you are interested; I'd then take mine down.

Hi Neil, Just receivedan e-mail from Allan Read detailing your initiative with the Sinjuns website. I would like to sign-up, please, and look forward to the start of a potentially fascinating revival of our murky pasts. I have a 'real' address, as Allan puts it, of ashleyhill@post.com if that is of any help. Thanks for doing this: I am sure many of us will find it of great interest. Regards, Ashley.

I was at Sinjuns 1956-63. My two older brothers (Michael and Brian) were at Sinjuns in the 1940s. I wish you all the best with the website, which I think is an excellent idea. I participated in Allan Read's renunion of the class of 1961 (5th form) held at the school last October. I would be pleased to contribute to the site as it grows.

This site seems to be going in the right direction. Keep up the good work. I'll be at the Re-Union, and the re-dedication of the Memorial to Sir Walter as I sing in St. Mary's Choir. ALso, as a matter of fact I was at the 1950 one. I can testify that the Church was indeed crowded.

Clearly it takes an ex-pat experience to sufficiently turn on the nostalgia juices to provide the motivation to produce a Sinjuns website ! Well done Neil, but do you know what you've started? I was there 1960 to 1967 being taught by such notable academics as "Beaky" Williams, "Flossy" Turner, Alan "the Sadist" Short,Gerry "Litmus" Lydon, "Bugs Bunny" Lanch, and the first Sinjuns teacher to come out "Dolly" Rhodes. I don't think anyone noticed me at school , but some of my contemporaries (none of whom joined the O.B.A. I might add) were; John Tilley( the school bully) and the only one who really stood up to him Phil Hammond, The boffins Peter Moran and Malcolm Blair, the Sportsmen Syed Razvi and Sandy Wilson, the first one to discover girls "Lusty" Lloyd, Price "Windmill" Williams the vicar's son and my best mate until he left after the fifth Derek "Lazerbeam" (well they had just been discovered then) Lazenby. Anyway congratulations on the site (very user friendly)and if I can find the motivation (someone sing me the school song!) I'll e-mail you a pic or two. Quite clearly with your drive, enthusiasm, and technological skills, you must have been in Bletsoe! Kind Regards to all. Trevor Orpwood

The arrival of the latest newsletter leads me to visit the site for the first time. I was at the school from 1959-1964, and three brothers also attended, Allan 1957-1962, Ken 1960-1966, and Paul 1964-1970. No claims to great scholastic achievements but all played football for the school and Old Boys. Also involved in School Choirs and Orchestras. Great to see some of the old names appearing, especially the masters. John "Thunderguts" Roberts used to live in the same street as me when I was at school. Keep up the good work, will come back to the site again soon!

I was at Sinjuns 1934 to 1941, spending the last two years of that period as an evacuee in Godalming. Now living in Northampton, I am somewhat disabled with angina and arthritis (to say nothing of an aortic aneurysm which I hope will be put right in the course of the next month or two) and cannot participate in such things as annual reunions etc. I am therefore glad to have found this website and look forward to exploring it thoroughly.

At Sinjuns 56-61. One of Bob Taylor's crew. Missed the Oct '99 reunion, but saw a great video of the event - many thanks to John Belton. I see several other lads from the 56-61 era have already signed the guestbook (John Firth, Steve Waring, Colin Wills, Paul Haswell, John Belton, Chris Singleton, Ashley Hill, Brian Popham, Allan Read). A great medium for keeping in touch with "old" acquaintances. I see also that Derek (Del) Smith has recently joined the Old Boys Association. Plan to be over in the old country for a week sometime in October & will try to hook up with some of you for a beer & a little reminiscing. Cheers!

Neil - so you don't remember me! Tut tut. I remember one teacher telling you to leave the room as you entered. "But I haven't done anything . . yet."; you protested. "Exactly" the teacher replied - Classic. Hi to Kevin England (still playing the flute?), Derek Heath (whatever happened to Pete Hudson?), yourself - fond memories of all in Lydiard/Tregoze 70-75. Alexander, Baker, Bolter, Chaudhury, Day ... Weems, Wells, Williams - Don't remember the middle bit. Anyone fill it in? (PS I lived in around the corner from you. How’s the garden?) Now Network Adminstrator at a secondary school - but soon moving on. David Williams (Gary's younger brother)

Dave, you did it! You blew away some major cobwebs this morning. Ok..names from the middle of the register, try Dunstan, Doug Hendry, Taffy Howells, Gary MacKenzie, The Mehta Twins, Dicky Moss, Barry Oliver, Patel, Penfold, Jumbo Taylor then at the end Steve Wells, and wasn't there Barber at the begining. Now I remember someone whose nickname was poodle, a short guy with curly hair, maybe called Baker? And whatever happened to Mark Moyland, the school swimming star, and the first in our year to turn up to school on one of those tricked out Italian 6 speed mopeds! Btw..did you used to live on Putney Park Lane..? Now can you remember the name of the teacher who ejected me..I think it was Muscles Macarthy...As for the garden, my youger brother still lives in the same house, but the garden is not kept up as it used to be since my parents passed away. Ok, back to the group, anyone else fill in the register blanks , and does anyone have acess to old school records?

I was at Sinjuns from 75-81. Some familiar sounding names here but having trouble matching faces. Ron Walker wasn't a problem though ! I often pass the school but have not been back since I left, perhaps it's time. Memories of 'The Bar', Mr Beanland (the nutty professor), Ackers (very 'unwise'),'Fritz', after school scraps in the blue playground, the tuck shop, Jaques Deli, Russ Carter, Steve Mileham, there is too many to list here. I'll send in the class photo of 3GB circa 77...spoon shoes and hair everywhere. Good Luck with the site. Ade.

I joined the school at Godalming in the closing days of World War II. I was interviwed by Dr J.E. Taylor and put in Miss Highton's (later Mrs Gibson) Prep. Form. It would be fair to say that I did not do well at School and left in 1952. I did, however, acquire a regard for learning. Later I served in the Royal Artillery, and worked for ICI in Hertforshire. I studied at the (then) Northern Polytechnic and obtained a London science degree in 1965. Later I worked in the Forestry Commisson and for the British Museum (Natural History), nowadays called the Natural History Museum, London. In 'retirement' I'm editing the diary of a naturalist who sailed to Australia in 1801-05 with Matthew Flinders. The book, published by the Flora of Australia in Canberra, should be out late next year. I've sung all my life and at the moment I sing in the choir at St Mary's, Battersea, just yards from the school, with two other Old Boys - Colin Pinnel and Robert Cooles. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone at school from 1945-52 who may remember me. David Moore

I found this site by looking for "Sir Walter St.John" in response to someone's question about him. I was at school 1945-49. After the Army, Cambridge U., and working for a year, I came to the US, acquired a wife and a PhD in that order, and am now a Professor of Organic Chemistry at the City College of New York and the City University Graduate School (there since 1962). I am no longer active as a Chess Master, though at one time I was #17 in the US rankings (played Bobby Fischer three times, and was efficiently creamed, but I did have wins against Reshevsky and a number of other grandmasters). I'm still playing piano seriously - our Music Department gets me to give a recital every Spring. Stories: I was a GOOD boy - so no one would suspect me... of making nitrogen tri-iodide in Dr Cavell's Chemistry lab, which explodes violently when touched when dry, but not when wet. This was scattered on the floors, giving satisfying underfoot bangs when stepped on. I decided that Major Nicholls History class, which had for me far too much about wars and the glories of the British Army, needed appropriate sound effects, so I put some of the stuff behing a radiator. Some time during the subsequent class it duly exploded....

Brilliant - but at the same time scary rediscovering all these old masters' names that I thought had sunk entirely into the subconscious. 'Bugs' Lanch, 'Acker', 'Boris' Roberts were all there in my time (1964-71) plus a few young turks that were the result of the changing times of the mid to late sixties when the old order was having rapidly - and reluctantly - to adapt to swinging London and all that exciting stuff. Good luck with building the site and I'll keep visiting to watch progress. Anyone else visiting from these years? And what's all this about reunion dinners?
